The 3 Amigos

Yup, that's 3 little dogs in that cage. They were only there momentarily while I took some pictures, but what a trio, eh? Ginger and Cody of course are mine. then there's Zippy. He was an amazing little dog that came to stay with me for a few weeks while one of our volunteers was dealing with the most heartbreaking life event anyone could ever go through, the loss of a child. That being said, Zippy was more than just a foster visitor for me. By the way, he's back with his original foster mom, looking cute as ever:-) He's just another example of an amazing dog that someone threw out, literally. At 12 years old, this dog can do many tricks and smiles the funniest smile you ever saw. He has a "wonky" leg as Virginia calls it and it adds to his comical personality. His owners divorced and decided that he was disposable so they dumped him on the street. No way to sugar coat it when a couple of human jerks don't bother to think about the needs of another living creature. With all of the options out there today, only a super idiot would just dump a dog on the street these days.
Needless to say, Zippy was picked up by Virginia just a few days before he was scheduled to be put down at a local pound. He'd apparently been there for some time. What a great little guy who was just forgotten by those who he was most devoted to. How do things like this happen??

Grrr, either way all is better now. He's back home with his foster mom where he belongs and yesterday, we had too much fun helping him to pose for pictures while we were at an adoption event. Good grief, who knew that this little hambone was such a great model on top of everyting else??? Can't wait to see how they turn out. They are supposed to be back in about two weeks. Can't wait for you to see them either.

In the meantime, no more fosters til summer (yeah, yeah, that's my goal anyway) so I can get my house and my critters in some kind of decent shape:-)

She's officially one of us now:-)

What a Pair

Are they cute or are they cute?? Cody is madly in love and Ginger is quite the little diva, keeping him on his toes. Since Ginger has been here, they are virtually inseperable. That being said looks like Ginger isn't going to be going anywhere:-) She seems to even out my family and she keeps Cody plenty busy so that I can spend a bit more time with my older girls and my rat boy. Sounds crazy, right? Having another critter can give you more time with the critters you already have? Well, I wouldn't have believed it either, but there are always exceptions to every rule. Besides, good grief she's only like 13 lbs. That's hardly bigger than some of the rats I've had, lol!

So it seems Ginger will become one of the family this weekend. I asked Ellen to give me a week to decide, but who am I kidding, she's already a part. I mentioned in another post that my dog Squirt, who is notorious for disliking the new dogs that come in (snob!) loves Ginger. In fact, when Ginger sits next to her outside, she almost looks like a part of her because they have the same ginger red hair:-) Should have known the first time Squirt let her sit next to her that I was in trouble. . .

How's this for a smile?

Little Miss Ginger loves, loves to play outside with the others. She's coming out of her shell quite nicely. She's only had a couple accidents since her first couple of days and she is starting to walk/run to me instead of hitting the floor on her back immediately. Her tail wags just about all of the time now and she sure does have one heckuva cute personality!

She and Cody like to do things in tandem, lol, especially when it comes to "guarding" the back yard. She now eats her meals without coaxing and she comes to me and puts her paws on my lap when she needs to go out. She seems so excited that I understand that she needs to go outside. I sure thought it was pretty exciting the first time she did it!

Ginger sure knows how to make those "little dog" eyes. You know the ones. Where they look up at you and squint them a little so they get all watery and shiny? Don't tell me they don't know what they're doing! Timing is too perfect to be an accident:-) Either way, this little jewel would probably do best with a buddy to keep her company while she's home without her human. She thrives on attention, whether from the dogs or me, though she does love to sit right next to me. She did very well at the adoption event Saturday and will be there again on Saturday this week. What a sweetie. Oh, one warning though: she can clean a nostril and your front teeth in one lick if you don't pay attention. I must admit, it is NOT a pleasant experience:-)

Off to Adoptions. . .

It's been a little while since I've been able to go to adoptions.  Ginger and I will be leaving here momentarily to hopefully find a new home for her.  While we're gone, my doggies will once again be cursing at me I'm sure because "the new guy always gets to go somewhere while we're stuck inside all day."  They'll forgive me when I come home and they get their special adoption day treats!

I know it's wet and gloomy outside, but it's just a sign that spring is on the way.  I'm hoping to get a nice garden going this year.  I always hope for that, but then give up after the fosters and my dogs make the new garden parts their favorite digging spots, lol.  I've learned a ton of great new ideas this year from a class I've been taking.  It seems it IS possible to have a great garden yard AND keep the furry friends happy as well, lol.  I'll keep ya posted on how well that works out:-)

Ginger

Nope, she's not a new foster of mine, just a visitor. She is a Senior Dog foster, but I'm just dogsitting for the foster mom. Her mom became ill and she had to go help out with the family. Since Ginger is so small I figured it's okay for her to stay here til her foster mom gets back.
Ginger is a little cutie, about 4 years old. She is very frightened still at this time. Why I'm not sure. I haven't gotten the whole story on this little gal yet. All I know is the first night she was with me, whenever I would walk up to her, she would roll over on her back and look like a little scared roly poly:-( Of course, you can see here she's with the dog's dog whisperer, so she is coming out of her shell. She loves to be outside with us. In fact, that's the only time I've seen her tail stick straight up is out there. She likes to act tough with Cody. Hehe, two little "ankle biters" as a friend calls them, trying to act tough and protect their "turf".
Ginger seems to be in good health and her coat is just as shiny and soft as you can imagine. She has beautiful cinnamon red fur with white going from the bottom of her chin to under her tummy. LOVES to be snuggled. She weighs only about 14 lbs and seems to be potty trained? At least, she hasn't had any accidents here and she's been here for a couple of days. She's starting to play more and become more confident. She likes to lay in the sunny window on the back of my couch and guard the place, lol.
Anyway, she's looking for a home now. She's great with other dogs, no trouble to have around and just looking for someone to love. I initially thought she might be a dachsie mix, but after watching her, I'm pretty convinced this little gal is rat terrier or jr terrier mix along with chihuahua (and probably who knows what else?:-)
Oh and the ear thing, yeah, who on earth can resist the one ear up/down thing. Ugh, sadly they know it too:-)
